A month ago, the network started talking that Microsoft plans to buy Discord for $ 10 billion. But it looks like the deal didn’t work out. According to The Wall Street Journal, the owners of Discord have changed their minds about selling the business to an American corporation or to anyone else.

According to anonymous sources, Discord was in talks with at least three potential buyers, including Microsoft.

However, in the end, the company failed to reach an agreement with any of them and decided to remain independent. But it is possible that in the future Discord will resume a dialogue with any of them.

Several sources of the business publication added that now the owners of the platform for gamers are thinking about the possibility of bringing the company to the stock market. Perhaps this will happen in the IPO format.

The Discord score is actively growing. In the middle of last summer, it was estimated at $3.5 billion. But after a funding round in December, that figure jumped to $7 billion. Also in 2020, the platform’s revenue increased well, it reached $ 130 million — 2.7 times more than it was in 2019.

Recall that earlier, in addition to Microsoft, Epic Games and Amazon were interested in buying Discord. It is unknown whether these companies participated in the ongoing negotiations.
