After a series of closures, the French publisher Gameloft made a major purchase. The Other Guys studio, which released the visual novels Linda Brown and Journeys, passed into his hands.

Information about the purchase was shared by VentureBeat with reference to the words of the owners of Gameloft. Reportedly, the publisher is interested in narrative games, the development of the event in which is determined by the player’s decision. The Other Guys is engaged in the development of such mobile titles.

The studio itself positions its games as interactive series. The Other Guys even notes that part of the team came to them from the TV industry. At the same time, developers have to work intensively — every week the company releases 14 episodes for titles.

The Other Guys games are especially popular among the female audience. Today they have collected a total of 37 million downloads.

The desire to attract female gamers was one of the reasons for the purchase, says Gameloft CEO Alexandre de Rochefort.

“The Other Guys create games that are very popular with the female casual audience,” says de Rochefort. “We also have great games for women, but we’ve never worked in the narrative genre.”

The terms of the deal are still unknown, but the management of The Other Guys remains the same: Nicolas Cuneo, Augusto Petrone and Pablo Mayer.

Gameloft is a French game developer and publisher. In 2016, the company was absorbed by the Vivendi media conglomerate.
