Mobile runner Minion Rush will soon reach 1 billion downloads. This was announced by the publisher of the title Gameloft in honor of the 20th anniversary of the company.
Now Minion Rush is the publisher’s most downloaded hit. The game has been gaining a billion installs since its release in June 2013. It should be noted that it was installed 150 million times already in the first six months.
The popularity of the title was ensured, among other things, by its brand: the game was created based on the cartoons “Despicable Me”, which collected several billion dollars at the box office.
Another driver of downloads of the game was its appearance on the Kakao platform in the first months after the release. Thanks to this, Minion Rush re-entered the top of South Korea.
Note: although 1 billion downloads for one title, and not for a series, is an impressive result, this is far from a record. For example, Halfbrick‘s mobile Fruit Ninja took five years to reach the same bar.
Gameloft is a French publisher of games for different platforms. In 2016, Vivendi received a controlling stake in its shares as part of an unfriendly takeover.
