The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia may soon become the largest shareholder of the Japanese studio SNK — developers of the Metal Slug series. He is suspected of involvement in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.
The Arab gaming company EGDC is officially negotiating the purchase of 33.3% of shares, DualShockers reports. But Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al-Saud (Mohammed bin Salman Al-Saud) fully controls all EGDC assets. The money for the purchase of securities of the Japanese studio was also given to them personally.
As a result of the deal, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud may get the largest share in SNK. If this happens, SNK intends to “change the largest shareholder by January 12 next year.” What this means is not specified.
Note that the Arab prince is a rather controversial figure. Despite the fact that in 2017 Time magazine named him person of the year, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud is accused of involvement in a variety of criminal cases. It is assumed that he is responsible for arms trafficking with the Syrian opposition, arrests and torture of Saudi human rights defenders, as well as the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.
So far, SNK management has not confirmed information about a possible agreement with EGDC.
In 2015, SNK was bought by a group of Chinese companies, and since then a controlling stake (33.16%) has belonged to Hong Kong Zuikaku Co., Limited. At the moment, the studio is working on a new part of Metal Slug for consoles and mobile devices, as well as a continuation of the fighting game The King of Fighters.
