Recall that Activision Blizzard recently accused two lawyers from the California Department of Fair Employment and Placement (DFEH) of violating ethics.
They used to work in another agency that is also investigating the publisher — the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). This made the situation more difficult, which is why Activision Blizzard asked to temporarily cancel the case.
Yesterday, DFEH filed a response application to the court, where it listed the arguments in its defense. There are three key ones:
- lawyers from DFEH, while working at the EEOC, almost did not investigate the Activision Blizzard case. However, even if they were more deeply involved, now DFEH’s interests in this case are represented by a third-party law firm;
- In addition, an agreement has been concluded between DFEH and EEOC in any case on the exchange of information related to this scandal;
- Activision Blizzard knew before that DFEH’s lawyers worked in the EEOC, and with the help of an appeal to the court, she hoped to distract attention from herself: “Activision Blizzard is trying to provoke a scandal and relies on facts that have been completely misinterpreted,” writes DFEH.
DFEH sued Activision Blizzard in July, accusing the company of harassment and discrimination against women. This led to numerous protests and dismissals. At the moment, about 20 people have left Activision Blizzard.
