The tenth birthday was the last for the Dutch indie studio Vlambeer. The developers of Nuclear Throne and Ridiculous Fishing announced the closure of the project, but promised to release the Ultrabugs game anyway.

Vlambeer founders Jan Willem Nijman and Rami Ismail shared their emotions from the incident on Twitter.

“Today marks the 10th anniversary of Vlambeer’s birth, and this is much more than we could have imagined,” the developers write. “We had a great time, made incredible games and worked with amazing people, but it’s time for new things. So, we are announcing the end of Vlambeer.”

According to Niiman and Ismail, this is not sad news for them, but a happy end to the decade: they have already achieved the goals they were aiming for. Moreover, they did not plan from the very beginning that Vlambeer would work for so long.

To prove that there is nothing to be sad about and in honor of the anniversary celebration, the developers made a couple of gifts to fans. Vlambeer launched the latest sale on Steam called “Vlambeer and Friends” and published an unfinished prototype of the game FFFLOOD.

The company also still plans to finish the Ultrabugs title. Most likely, support for already released games will continue, but the studio cannot guarantee it 100% yet. Only one thing is definitely known – there will be no more new games from Vlambeer.

The founders of Vlambeer are not going to finally leave the industry: they will both continue to pursue their projects, but separately. In an interview for Polygon, Neiman said that he wants to devote himself to creating small games like Minit, and Ismail will continue to fight for diversity in games.

Vlambeer was founded in 2010 and produced mainly arcade games. Among her most famous games are Super Crate Box, Serious Sam: The Random Encounter, Ridiculous Fishing, Luftrausers and Nuclear Throne.
