That’s No Moon is a new studio founded by people from Naughty Dog, Infinity Ward and other large companies. The team has already attracted investments in the amount of $ 100 million and will develop a story AAA game. The creation of That’s No Moon was announced on July 28 on the official website of the studio.
Smilegate, the developer of Crossfire, invested in the company. The funds will be used to develop the first game That’s No Moon — a third-person action adventure, which will have a strong plot component.
The creative director of the project will be Taylor Kurosaki, a former narrative designer of Naughty Dog and narrative director of Infinity Ward. The game director will be Jacob Minkoff, who was the lead game designer of The Last of Us and the design director of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
The CEO of That’s No Moon was Michael Mumbauer. Previously, he headed the Visual Arts Service Group, one of Sony’s gaming divisions. You can read more about the history of this team here.
That’s No Moon also includes former employees of Sony Santa Monica, Electronic Arts and Bungie. The team will be located in Los Angeles and San Diego, and by 2022 the studio plans to increase the staff from 40 to 100 people. To do this, vacancies have been opened on the company’s website for specialists in various fields of development.
The developers themselves do not talk about the origin of the name of their studio. However, this is probably a reference to the famous phrase of Obi-Wan Kenobi from “Star Wars“: “This is not the moon, this is a space station” (That’s no moon, it’s a space station).
