The quarantine of coronavirus in China and South Korea plays into the hands of the game rendezvous. Weekly installations increased significantly in both countries in February. In the Middle Kingdom — by 80% at once compared to the average of 2019.

This data was presented by the analytical service App Annie. His new report shows that Chinese and Korean users are spending more and more time on their smartphones while sitting at home*.

* In February — early March, China and South Korea recorded the largest number of COVID-19 patients worldwide. Now South Korea is in fifth place, China is still in first place.

China

  • In February, average weekly downloads of mobile games increased by 80% compared to the average for the whole of 2019.
  • The Chinese began to spend up to 5 hours a day on smartphones. This is 30% more than the average daily figure in 2019.
  • In the local App Store, weekly downloads increased by a quarter in monthly terms in February. The figure reached 63 million installations.

South Korea

  • Average weekly downloads increased by 35% compared to the average of last year and by 25% compared to January 2020.
  • From February 23 to February 29, the country’s users downloaded mobile games 15 million times.

Games

App Annie also presented the top most downloaded games on iOS and Android for the first half of March. The top covers the whole world, not just China and South Korea.

  • Casual Slap Kings from Lion Studios topped the download charts in a number of countries (including France, Germany, Italy, the UK and the USA) from March 1 to March 14.
  • The top 10 installations in many markets included Woodturning, Draw Climber and Brain Test: Tricky Puzzles.
  • Recall that Woodturning and Draw Climber launched Voodoo, the last of them is a novelty. In February, these two games turned out to be the most downloaded hyper-casual titles, Sensor Tower reported.
