Unity has met the developers halfway: in Unity Plus, the loading screen has become changeable. In addition, the budget limit has increased.
First the background: The loading screen with the Unity corporate logo has long remained a stumbling block between the developers and the creators of the engine. In Unity Pro and perpetual license, this screen was replaceable. In Unity Personal, no.
Download screen for the free version of the Personal Edition. According to some developers, a game with such a loading screen could look artisanal
At the Unite Europe 2016 conference in Amsterdam, Unity announced new subscription options for the engine.
In addition to Unity Pro, Unity Personal and the Unity Enterprise option for large corporations, the Unity Plus plan has appeared. This option cost from $35 to $49 per month. But it was accompanied by the same restrictions as the free Unity Personal. Namely, a mandatory loading screen with the Unity logo and a limit on annual income of $ 100 thousand.
The innovation raised questions from the developers. Someone reacted ambiguously to the very idea of subscription, someone demanded that the company at least remove the default loading screen.
Unity promised to listen to opinions.
Subscription options were updated on June 15. And today, on June 16, the company announced that it is accepting a number of additions. The loading screen in Unity Plus has become customizable, not default. Plus, the budget limit has increased from $100 thousand to $200 thousand. We did this so that more developers would like the offer.
Instead, Unity canceled one of the ways to purchase Unity Plus. Initially, you could subscribe to this plan for a month for $49 or for a year with monthly payments of $35. Now only the second option remains.
Plus, the Pay to Own option (similar to the previous perpetual license) can now be upgraded only from Unity Pro. Here, however, there will still be clarifications. The company has not yet even named how much this option will cost.
And a bonus: only one inscription will now remain on the loading screen itself – Made with Unity. There will be no additions about the Personal Edition, as before.
