Simon Phillips became the CEO of Studio 22cans.
Phillips has devoted more than 20 years to game rendezvous. Previously, he held senior positions at Gusto Games and Silicon Dreams.
Previously, Peter Molyneux served as the head of the studio. Now he will be able to focus on his duties as a creative director.
The appointment of a new CEO is part of the stated plan to “restart” the studio. In addition to the new director, other employees will appear in the company. These are Anthony Straub from Asobo Studios, who will take the position of producer, and Colin Gallacher. The latter will work for 22cans as a PR manager.
In addition, programmers and artists will join the team.
Part of the previous line-up leaves the studio at the same time. Producer Gemma Harris and (Jemma Harris) and Jack Attridge, who worked on the Godus project as a game designer, are leaving.
The last few months have been difficult for the studio: it has faced harsh criticism of its Godus project, because it did not fulfill some of the points stated during the fundraising for the project through Kickstarter. So, the multiplayer mode and the Linux version did not appear in the game. Both of these updates were promised to users in February.
Molineux, responding to criticism, first took responsibility for the mistakes, and then refused to talk to the press.
