Yesterday, the first major sale — Epic Mega Sale – started in the Epic Games Store. There were some incidents. Vampire games disappeared from the store immediately after the promotion started: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 and Oxygen Not Included.

Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2
The removal of both games has confused many users.

Later it turned out that at least one publisher — Paradox Interactive, responsible for Vampire — himself decided to remove his game from the store for the time of the “mega sale”. This was reported by representatives of the store.

If a developer or publisher decides not to participate in our sales, we will comply with this decision.

From the Epic Games Store statement

According to Kotaku, the reaction of Paradox came as a complete surprise to one of the creators of Epic Games Store — Sergey Galenkin. He assured that the game will definitely return to the store after the end of the promotion. Some players managed to purchase it at a big discount before it disappeared. Epic Games Store will let them keep the game.

As for the publisher of Oxygen Not Included — Klei Entertainment — he has not yet commented on the removal of his title from the store.

The act of Paradox and Klei at first glance looks illogical. After all, the “mega-sale” takes place at the expense of the Epic Games Store, that is, the discount is fully compensated to the publishers of the games presented in the store.

However, as Galenkin himself was surprised to find out later, Paradox was not informed about the mechanism of discounts. Because of this, the publisher decided that he would lose money on the “mega sale”, and removed the game. Klei Entertainment probably acted out of the same concerns.

Note that as part of the “mega sale”, players receive a discount of 650 rubles for all games in the Epic Games Store, which cost more than 900 rubles. The campaign involves games that have not yet been released: for example, Borderlands 3 and the creations of the Quantic Dream studio.
