TiMi Studios, known for the mobile hits Call of Duty: Mobile and Honor of Kings, intends to make multiplatform AAA games. To do this, Tencent’s subsidiary studio announced the opening of a new office in Seattle. It was headed by veterans of the gaming industry who worked on the Battlefield and Halo series. The new office will open before the end of 2021.
Now TiMi Studios is planning to expand the already formed team of 25 people and is looking for concept artists, programmers and a lead producer.
The studio will develop a new service shooter for consoles and other platforms. “Thanks to TiMi’s resources, the Seattle team will be able to create AAA console games for audiences around the world,“ said Vincent Gao, International Director of TiMi Studios.
The director of the new studio will be Scott Warner, who previously worked at EA, Ubisoft, 343 Industries, Pandemic Studios and Black Isle Studios. He was the game designer of Planescape: Torment, the lead designer of Mercenaries, the design director of Halo 4, as well as the game director of Battlefield Hardline.
Rosi Zagortcheva, who previously worked at Pandemic Studios, EA and DICE, will become the operating director of the Seattle office. In particular, she was the producer of Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel, senior director of Battlefield 4 and Star Wars: Battlefront, and was also responsible for launching the Medal of Honor Warfighter.
TiMi Studios is the highest—grossing mobile developer in the world. Last year, the studio’s revenue was $10 billion, and now it wants to expand its presence on other platforms. Now the “daughter” of Tencent is preparing to launch the MOBA Pokémon Unite, which will also be released on the Nintendo Switch.
Obviously, an unannounced game from a team in Seattle will be the next step in creating multiplatform AAA titles. Analyst Daniel Ahmad previously noted that the game is being developed on Unreal Engine 5.
