A new iteration of the Unreal Engine has appeared. In version 4.13 – “hundreds of new updates”.

A lot of interesting features have been added for the convenience of working with graphics, animation and to increase productivity.

Among the key updates:

  • Alembic format support for vertex animation;
  • optimization of dynamic shadows for mobile projects;
  • changes in the VR Editor (added support for capsule shadows);
  • changes in the Sequencer cinematics scene editor (a Live Recording tool has been added, which allows you to transform gameplay, including all animation, audio and effects, into a separate asset. After that, the asset can be edited using Sequencer).

The rest of the updates are also related to usability and performance improvements. For example, it is now possible to cache shadow maps for mobile light sources.

Plus, the authors of the engine have fixed the latest bugs found. We assume that some of these errors were tracked down thanks to a public bug tracker that Epic Games launched at the end of July.

The full list of innovations and bug fixes can be found at the link.
