The Outward role-playing game has sold 400 thousand copies in six months. This is much more than the developer studio Nine Dots expected.

According to PCGamesN, Outward is called a hardcore, even uncompromising game. The studio was not completely sure that their project would attract a mass player. “We knew this title wasn’t for everyone, but we wanted to stick to our own vision — and it paid off,” Nine Dots said in a video diary.

The success of the game allowed the studio to prepare a large pack of new content for Outward. They promise to diversify the endgame, as well as add a new, even more complex mode.

About Nine Dots and Outward

Nine Dots is a small studio created in 2015 with a very diverse portfolio. She has released two more titles: the multiplayer GoD Factory and the 2D platformer Brand. The publication of Outward was taken up by Deep Silver (owned by THQ Nordic).

In Outward, the player controls the most ordinary hero, who does not save the world, but simply travels to large locations. If necessary, he can fight, clear dungeons and look for the best equipment. After “death” he will be in a random place: in the city, the lair of the beast, prison, etc. There is no possibility to save manually in the game.

The project received mixed media reviews, but the players rated it higher, as seen on Metacritic. It is still unclear how the sales of the game were distributed on the PS4, Xbox One and Steam platforms. But, according to Steam Spy, it is owned by 200 thousand people in the Valve store. This suggests that hardcore survival-focused games are still popular among PC users.

Let’s add that Kingdom Come: Deliverance (another role-playing game, similar in its complexity to Outward) sold 2 million copies in the first year. 45% of its sales came from Steam.
