We have already written more than once that things are not the best with RTS on the mobile market. There are almost no games in this genre on either iOS or Android. The only project that lit up in the genre on the markets is the Singapore Autumn Dynasty. Yesterday it became known that very soon it will be continued.
The original project was released on the App Store in May 2012. Its publisher was the French company Bulkypix, better known in the field of classical “quest building”. The game was sold at a price of $6.99.
The main features of Autumn Dynasty are:
- an unusual genre for iOS (there is nothing unusual for PC here: a large map on which we build troops, improve buildings and look for an enemy in the “fog of war”)
- full-fledged PvP mode (you can play with friends on the same map via Bluetooth)
- unusual graphic style (a la Chinese engravings)
The project received good press (85 points on Metacritic based on 12 reviews), despite the high cost, it was warmly received by the players (4.5 points in the App Store based on 1.5 thousand ratings). Moreover, in the second week after the release, he even managed to get to 11th place in the top American paid downloads of iPad apps (most likely, Apple’s feature affected).
But then it immediately crashed out of the top 500 apps and top 500 games. However, this did not prevent the project from staying in the top 100 grossing strategies on the American market for almost the entire year. Rare discounts up to $2.99, $3.99 and $4.99 slightly improved the position of the project, raising it to the gaming box office top 200.
In July, a free version of the app appeared on the App Store with the first two missions from the campaign (in fact, a demo, there is no IAP for upgrading to the full version). Its indicators are not interesting at all: the lite version was not included even in 1000 applications by downloads on the American market.
And now Touch Dimensions is going to release a sequel. It’s called Autumn Dynasty: Warlords. The game, first of all, will change externally. The developers abandoned the hand-drawn style of the first part. The second major innovation: the appearance of a strategic map (a la Total War).
The project will appear on the App Store in October. Whether it will be distributed on a free-to-play- or paid-model is still unclear.
By the way, it also became known that in the near future the original Autumn Dynasty will appear on Android.
