Auroch Digital together with Games Workshop will release a mobile version of the 1987 board game Chainsaw Warrior. It will be possible to go in search of the source of evil in zombie-infested New York this summer.

Rules of the game

Chainsaw Warrior is one of those board games that are designed for one person. Its gameplay looks something like this: the player has a conditional 60 minutes to get out of the maze and overcome the Darkness. Every conditional 30 seconds is one game move, during which the user removes one card from two decks that act as a maze. The map can be a monster, a trap, radiation, weapons, a first aid kit and much more. The final task: to have time to deal with both decks in 120 moves.

The gameplay is complicated by the fact that at the beginning of the game the player must create, by throwing dice, his character with a large number of characteristics, as well as a full inventory. As a result, the fight against each monster takes place taking into account all these parameters.

Reasons for choosing

Director of development Thomas Rawlings explained that the studio chose Chainsaw Warrior because he played it as a child (a dream come true …). He added that he considers Chainsaw Warrior “a classic of board games” and even “the predecessor of first-person shooters.”

Thomas also liked the style of the 80s, which the designers tried to keep in the mobile version. He also compared the game to such modern “monsters” as Dark Souls or Super Meat Boy.

In addition to Chainsaw Warrior, Games Workshop plans to release mobile versions of Space Hulk and Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon.
