The company Indievent was deprived of the license to release games in China. The discontent of the Chinese authorities could be caused by the indie horror Devotion released by the publisher.

According to PCGamesN, the license of Indievent was canceled due to violations of Chinese law. Devotion was not mentioned in the written refusal by the authorities, but a recent incident is connected with it.

Earlier, art materials insulting Chinese President Xi Jinping were found in the game. A comic inscription was made on the virtual poster: “Xi Jinping, Winnie the Pooh, jerk.” This is a meme banned in China since 2017, writes Gamesindustry.biz . Due to the presence of a poster in the game, a scandal broke out, and in February, Devotion was removed from Steam.

The developer of Devotion — Red Candle Games — is no longer cooperating with Indievent. The publisher broke up with him immediately after the incident, but this obviously did not save him from the cancellation of the license in China.
