Discovery Inc., which owns the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet television networks, has created a game studio. Discovery Games Studios is designed to create and license games on PC, consoles and mobile devices.
Her projects will be based on popular TV shows produced by Discovery Inc., writes the Hollywood Reporter. The new studio has more than a dozen projects in the works, including those based on the reality shows “Naked and Scared” and “Deadly Catch”, as well as the series “Moonshiners”.
Ian Woods, Senior Vice President of International Products at the media company, has been appointed head of Discovery Games Studios. Until now, he has not been associated with the gaming industry in any way. He has been working for Discovery for the last ten years, and before that he headed the licensing department at the European branch of Hasbro for five years.
The Discovery Games Studios given to him, although it was created only recently, enters the market with a portfolio of 12 games. She owns the rights to a number of projects created in partnership with Discovery Inc. and various gaming companies. Among them are publishers Ubisoft, Jam City and Playway Games, as well as studios Code Horizon and Gamaga.
Gold Rush: The Game by Code Horizon
Previously, Discovery has always agreed to create games based on its TV shows with third-party developers.
So, for example, Gold Rush was released: The Game from Code Horizon, Man Vs. Wild from Scientifically Proven and Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm from Liquid Dragon Studios. Now the company has decided to take game development under its own control.
Discovery Game Studios aims to create innovative interactive products that not only build on the success of our franchises, but are also able to surprise and delight our audience.
