Jamie Laes, the head of the Rovio gaming division, is leaving his post for his own startup, the Reuters news agency reports. There have been no comments from Rovio yet. The company’s reshuffles and layoffs, Reuters suggests, are forced measures due to growing competition in the mobile market.
Laes’ departure is far from the only change in the command structure of the Finnish gaming corporation. Recently, Angry Birds president and creator Mikael Hed has left the company, giving way to former Nokia Vice President of Marketing Pekka Rantala. Antti Sonninen, who was responsible for Rovio’s policy in Japan, and Kalle Kaivola, head of development and publishing at Rovio Entertainment, left.
In October last year, Rovio had to say goodbye to part of the team of the Finnish division in order to minimize costs and stimulate the growth of the company.
