This year, the Emmy Award for the best TV movie was awarded to the non-standard project “Black Mirror: Brandashmyg”. This is an interactive movie — that is, in fact, a game.
In the fight for the prestigious American award, “Brandashmyg” beat such solid nominees as “My Dinner with Herve”, “Deadwood” and “Brexit”. This is reported by PCGamer.
How the “Brandashmyg” works
The film released on Netflix can be attributed to FMV games for a number of reasons. The FMV (Full Motion Video) format allows the viewer to make decisions for the main character. The choice is given 10 seconds, otherwise the character makes it himself. This makes it related to Telltale projects.
Together, these decisions lead to one of several endings. “Brandashmyg” can last both 40 minutes and 2.5 hours – it all depends on the decisions made.

The advantage of such films as “Brandashmyg” is not only in a new entertainment experience for the ordinary viewer. This film puts a spoke in the wheel of pirates, because it can’t just be put on the Internet entirely. Without interactive technology, all the scenes and endings of the film will go one after another. This creates confusion and inconvenience for the viewer.
Awarding such a project with an Emmy Award is the first time in history. Although “Brandashmyg” is still considered a TV movie, since it was filmed as one of the episodes of “Black Mirror” and is inseparable from the series. However, all the other series are classic movies.
Earlier, Netflix said that new films like “Brandashmyg” will be filmed. “We realized that we wanted to bet on interactive stories, so expect more of this content in the next year or two,” Netflix vice president Todd Yellin said in March of this year.
