The co-op game Peak arrived on consoles on October 22, 2026. Its price was set at $9.99 compared to $7.99 on PC. One of the game's developers, Nick Kaman, explained why the team decided to increase the price.
In a conversation with Game File, Kaman shared that in the initial pricing, the developers focused not so much on the actual cost of the game but on how it would be perceived by consumers.
To recap, Peak was released on PC in June 2025 for $7.99. At launch, it was sold at a discount for about $5. Kaman previously explained that psychologically, players perceive $8 as being in the $5 price range rather than the $10 range.
Now, according to the developer, the game has moved into the next pricing category.
“Unfortunately, Steven, $10 is $10,” Kaman joked when asked by a journalist about the new price.
He clarified that since the release, the content volume in Peak has doubled: the team added several new biomes and improvements enhancing gameplay convenience. In Kaman's opinion, this justifies the increase in perceived project value from $5 to $10.
However, the developer noted that the team could have set the price at $12, as psychologically it would still be perceived as $10. Ultimately, they decided against this.
It's worth mentioning that Peak was developed by a combined team from Aggro Crab and Landfall. The console versions of the game were simultaneously released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. A physical edition for PS5, priced at $19.99, is also scheduled for release in December.
