The Storm8 developer has added a tournament mode to his own match-3 Candy Blast Mania. The authors of the mechanics call it “the first of its kind”, and the Venturebeat resource believes that this will raise the download project.

The mode looks like this: five players engage in combat. For a limited period of time (up to half an hour) they are trying to score as many points as possible. Everyone gets the same candies that need to be matched. The player does not see the actions of his opponents and cannot influence their decisions. Before the eyes of the player, the measure of the points scored: he sees how the opponents and himself have their number growing in real time.

According to Venturebeat, mechanics can raise the project load. So far, the game is on the 673rd place in downloads in the American App Store.

It should be noted here that calling the regime “the first of its kind” is not entirely correct, in our opinion. The authors of “three-in-a-row” Mars Pop resorted to similar mechanics. The difference was that the fight was conducted one-on-one with the opponent, plus, the player saw what moves the second user was making. But the project was so unsuccessful that it had to be closed. After that, Outfit 7 decided to restart the game under the Talking Tom brand, adding a single, bonuses, collections and advertising. The result was Talking Tom Bubble Shooter. However, the game did not achieve much popularity. As of May 25, it is on the 642nd place in downloads in the American App Store (App Annie data). The result was not the most advantageous because it is a controversial decision to hang competitive mechanics on a traditionally female genre.

Will similar competitive mechanics help Candy Blast Mania (the same “three-in-a-row” as Talking Tom Bubble Shooter) to “take off”? Unlikely.
