Indie studio Yacht Club Games is ready to become a game publisher. By the end of the year, she will release the latest addon to Shovel Knight and will start helping other indies to enter the market.

Shovel Knight
In December, the hit platformer Shovel Knight will receive the latest addon — King of Card.

In five years, this game was released on 12 platforms and sold 2.6 million copies. Its success will allow Yacht Club Games to now tightly engage in the publishing business.

As reported by Gamesindustry.biz, in 2016, this company has already acted as the publisher of the Gunvolt Striker Pack from Inti Creates. But this experiment, according to COO James Chan, was deemed unsuccessful: the Yacht Club lacked experience and, possibly, resources.

Now an increased and more experienced team is ready to help other indie developers to launch on the market. But Yacht Club is not one of those publishers who will simply give the developer money and ask to show only the final build. As Chan notes: “We will take care of the developers, share our tools; they will have access to our creatives, and we will check the game personally at every stage — with a mandatory feedback.”

Yacht Club has already taken over the publication of Cyber Shadow from the developer Mechanical Head Studios. It is still unknown whether the publisher will create new games for old times’ sake and what they will be like.
