The revenue of the augmented reality (XR) market is expected to grow to $11.5 billion in 2019. This forecast, based on revenue statistics from VR, AR and MR devices, was made in SuperData.
PlayStation VROverall figures for 2018

- AR market — $1.8 billion;
- MR-market — $0.5 billion.
According to SuperData, by 2022 the total revenue of the XR industry will be $34 billion. This is an increase of 442% compared to last year.
PlayStation VR is the current market leader
Analysts note the growing popularity of VR helmets among users. This is due to the growth of VR market revenue by 30% year-on-year.
During the year it was sold:
- 700 thousand PlayStation VR;
- 555 thousand Oculus Go;
- 160 thousand Oculus Rift;
- 130 thousand HTC VIVE.
PlayStation VR sales showed particularly good growth in the fourth quarter. However, the same applies to Oculus Go.
SuperData also emphasizes that Oculus may sell 1.3 million of its Oculus Quest this year.
Games are the largest source of income
Games have brought the largest revenue to the XR industry compared to other VR/AR/MR applications. This is 68% of the total application turnover for 2018. In the VR segment alone, games generated 43% of app revenue, which amounted to $1.2 billion.
