Polish CD Projekt and writer Andrzej Sapkowski seem to have settled old disputes. The parties have renegotiated the contract on the rights to the Witcher franchise.

The contract is dated December 20. Its details are not disclosed, as it is a trade secret.
But the general provisions are known:
- the contract confirms the old rights to the “witchy IP” for CD Projekt. The company can create and sell video games, board games, graphic novels and souvenirs with the theme of The Witcher;
- the contract also grants the publisher new IP rights. Which ones are not exactly indicated. But note that in the report for the summer of this year, CD Projekt expressed its readiness to develop the Witcher franchise;
- The agreement will become the “basis for future cooperation” between the Polish company and Andrzej Sapkowski.
Previously, there was a license agreement between the parties, concluded before the release of the first “Witcher”. He also became the reason for the judicial conflict.
Last year, Andrzej Sapkowski said that the amount paid to him under the contract is negligible in comparison with the income of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. And demanded new deductions in the amount of $16 million.
CD Projekt stated that these demands were groundless. But she still promised the author of the Witcher Saga compensation: less than he demanded, but enough to “maintain good relations.” The case was settled in a pre-trial order.
Judging by the information about the new contract, the relationship really managed to be preserved.
CD Projekt publisher has released a game trilogy and two offshoots for the Witcher franchise. The Wither 3: Wild Hunt has become a global hit. It sells well even five years after its release. In addition, the game recently appeared on the Nintendo Switch, which spurred the publisher’s earnings.
