Animal Crossing: New Horizons is confidently moving towards not only becoming the main Nintendo game, but also one of the central releases of the current generation of consoles. The game has almost caught up with one of the best-selling games of recent years, Red Dead Redemption 2.
Today it became known from the company’s report that in just four months Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold 22.4 million copies sold – this is a huge indicator for such a period. It seems that the simulator of a quiet life has gained explosive popularity.
None of the parts of the franchise sold at such a rate. For example, the previous game (Animal Crossing: New Leaf) has sold only 12 million copies in six years. Even the iconic Red Dead Redemption 2 took six months for the circulation to reach the 24 million mark (and another one and a half to reach the 29 million copies mark).
Previously Animal Crossing: New Horizons has already set records. In the release month, its digital version was sold 5 million times – no other digital console game has ever been distributed so actively in a month.
Today Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the second most successful Nintendo game. So far, it is ahead of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with 26.74 million copies sold.
According to the approximate calculations of Animal Crossing: New Horizons could have brought the company $1.34 billion.
