We continue to publish the most interesting messages that come in connection with the ChinaJoy 2013 conference in Shanghai. This time there are new data on the size of the Chinese mobile games market for the first half of 2013.

According to China Gaming Industry Report, the number of mobile game users in China increased by 119% year-on-year to 171 million players. In the first six months of 2013, sales in the Chinese mobile games market increased by 100% compared to the same period in 2012, and reached 2.5 billion yuan, i.e. approximately $ 412 million.And although mobile games occupy only 7.5% of the total gaming market in China, where PC and online games continue to dominate, this sector is growing rapidly.

On the other hand, growth does not mean that developers are not experiencing difficulties. LineKong Executive Director Wang Feng told the China Digital Entertainment Congress that competition in the Chinese market has reached such an incredible scale that most companies will simply go bankrupt.

As we have already written, Xiangdong Zhang, executive director of Shanda Games, believes that developers will be able to succeed – especially in the global market – only if they seriously engage in the quality of their games. He also pointed out the need to establish a better balance between risk and reward in the relationship of developers with large platforms and stores. In his opinion, “while developers take on too much risk, distribution companies take less risk, which is why there is a conflict between them.” Large platforms and stores dominate the Chinese mobile games market, which is mainly aimed at users of Android devices.
