The studio will close its client by the end of the year.
Dauntless’s free-to-play cooperative action game will move to the Epic Games Store. There is already a game page in the store, but the release date is not indicated there.
However, as previously announced by Phoenix Labs, Dauntless will be released on consoles in April. The release of the game in the Epic Games store may coincide with this date.
A few weeks before that, players’ accounts will begin to be transferred from the Dauntless client to the Epic store. They will be linked to new or existing Epic Games Store accounts. The developers also promise to transfer all the accumulated progress, friend lists and earned currency. However, they will not be able to keep the same names of all the players.
When the “voluntary migration” process is completed, the current Dauntless client will be closed.
According to the developers, Epic Games will help them make Dauntless “a truly cross-platform game.” Now there is only a PC version in the open beta stage. But in April Dauntless will appear on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and a little later — on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.
More than four years ago, when we first started creating Dauntless, we dreamed that it could be played with friends, being anywhere and on any platform. Epic Games pioneered by creating the first true cross-platform game on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Switch and mobile devices. We are very happy to cooperate with them in the Dauntless project.
Recently, more and more teams are announcing the upcoming release in the Epic Games Store. For his sake, such large titles as Metro Exodus and The Division 2, as well as smaller projects (Operencia: The Stolen Sun, Satisfaction and Rebel Galaxy Outlaw) have left the Steam platform.
However, the case of Dauntless can be called exceptional. After all, its authors refused not from someone else’s distributor, but from their own client.
Dauntless is a Monster Hunter—inspired cooperative action game in an animated style. In it, players unite in squads and hunt giant monsters.
