The Lightneer team consists entirely of people who are associated with Rovio.

So, the leading game designer of the project is Lauri Konttori, the creator of Angry Birds Toons, and the investor was Peter Vesterbacka, the “Mighty Eagle” of Rovio.

The goal of Lightneer will be to create educational games. The creators of the studio claim that projects of this kind are not widely represented in today’s market, and they are going to change this.

Lightneer CEO Lauri Järvilehto notes that he and his colleagues have been working on the idea of a startup for four years. It was not possible to implement it together with Rovio. “That’s why we organized something like an interest club, met in the evenings and tried to figure out what our game would be like,” Yarvilehto comments.

The studio’s first project will appear in stores next year.

Recall that last week Rovio confirmed the news about the upcoming cuts. Yarvilehto does not say whether the creation of a startup is a direct consequence of these layoffs.
