People Can Fly could count on a percentage of Outriders’ sales if the project’s revenue would cover development costs. However, the studio claims that it has not received any payments from Square Enix since April. Although initially the publisher was pleased with the results of the shooter.Outriders
The developers expected to receive money based on the results of the first quarter after the release of Outriders (ended June 30), according to the Polish edition of Eurogamer.
The deadline for payments was set for August 16.
According to People Can Fly, the studio is still not aware of the exact sales of the game. The developers themselves estimate them at 2-3 million copies from April to June — this would be enough for the project to start making a profit.
In May, Square Enix reported that Outriders attracted 3.5 million players in the first month. The publisher noted the good results of the project and stated that he considers it as a new potential franchise.
However, the lack of payouts may mean that Square Enix still does not consider Outriders successful. It may also indicate that the costs of developing and promoting the game were higher than initially expected and could still not fight back.
Sebastian Wojciechowski, president of People Can Fly Group, noted that the company still hopes to receive payments from Square Enix by the end of the year. He also stressed that in the future the studio plans to independently publish its games.
