NPD presented a sales report on the US gaming market for the past month. Although the total turnover fell by a third, October was one of the best months for the market in the last ten years.

According to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, the results for October are more positive than they seem. Last month, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII celebrated their first anniversary. Since such hits rarely enter the market, there is nothing strange in the decline in sales in annual terms.
So, last month was the second most successful October for the US gaming market in ten years. The releases of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, The Outer Worlds and Luigi’s Mansion 3 helped to reach this bar.
Call of Duty: Modern WarfareGame Sales
For the gaming segment, October turned out to be the third most successful in ten years. Software sales were better only in October 2008 and October 2018.
The bestseller of the month and year in the region was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Note that the games in this series have traditionally been the best—selling in the United States for 12 years.
Separately, NPD noted the success of Switch titles. They helped offset the decline in gaming sales on other platforms. Luigi’s Mansion 3 showed the best result among the games for Switch.
