The president and CEO of the Japanese Nintendo corporation Satoru Iwata has passed away at the age of 55. Information about this appeared on the official website of the company.

Satoru Iwata died on July 11 due to a malignant tumor of the bile ducts. According to representatives of Nintendo, in the summer of 2014, the president of Nintendo was operated on for the same reason, which briefly improved his condition.

The name of Iwata’s successor is not reported. Senior Managing Director Genyo Takeda will head the committee organizing the funeral of the president of Nintendo. Perhaps this means that Takeda will take the place of the head of the corporation in the future.

Satoru Iwata has been developing games since the 1980s. He started his career at HAL Laboratory, where he participated in the creation of a series of games Pokemon, Balloon Fight, Kirby, EarthBound. Iwata was appointed director of the Nintendo Corporation in 2000. He took the post of president of the company in 2002.
