Netflix’s main competitor is Fortnite, not HBO. Representatives of the streaming service reported this in a letter to shareholders.
In the USA, we account for about 10% of TV screen time, and even less on mobile devices. We compete (and lose the fight) with Fortnite more than with HBO.
According to Variety, Fortnite is the only game recognized in the letter as a competitor to Netflix. Its popularity worries the company more than the threat from streaming services Hulu, Amazon Prime or Disney+.
Fortnite surpasses Netflix in terms of audience size. The number of players in the battle royale from Epic Games has reached 200 million. At the same time, the number of Netflix viewers is 139 million.
