The American division of the Chinese gaming company NetEase is launching the NetEase Success Fund, which will give independent developers up to $ 500,000 to launch mobile games.
The company itself calls the fund “an alternative to traditional publishing houses.”
An indie team whose mobile game will interest the fund’s management will receive up to $500,000 for its publication. There are no geographical restrictions on participation in the initiative, that is, the project can be sent from anywhere in the world.
The game is accepted at any stage. It can be a concept or a finished beta. But at the same time, NetEase will not provide funds directly for development (although it does not completely exclude this possibility). It is assumed that the money will be spent on distribution and marketing, especially on user acquisition.
In return, NetEase will receive a fixed amount from the project’s revenue. The authors of the initiative emphasize that both in the process of paying this amount and after it is paid, the creators of the game retain all rights to the game.
The only condition that NetEase stipulates is that the company will retain the unique rights to publish the resulting projects in China.
