Downloads from the MIUI app store, embedded in Xiaomi‘s Android phone firmware, reached a billion a year after launch. According to Xiaomi, its store is among the five largest of the 200 available in China.

Of the 20 million adherents of MIUI, 17 million are active users of the store and download 5 million applications daily. At the same time, 70% of Xiaomi phone users, the total number of which is 14 million, have downloaded applications from the store at least once. The remaining 30% either did not download applications, or never used the built-in store for this.

Games that can be found in the Game Center section bring $1.63 million to store owners every month. Hong Feng, the head of MIUI, told local media that 60% of MIUI‘s revenue comes from games, the rest from other paid applications, a browser (paid search + paid links/displayed ads), themes, books, cloud service, etc.

The company’s profit consists of a one-time profit from device sales and a steady profit from the MIUI software ecosystem. Xiaomi now has a budget of $10 million, and the company intends to increase its annual revenue to $16 billion within a few years.

By the way, Hugo Barra is leaving the post of Google’s vice president for Android OS and will join the ranks of Xiaomi employees. He will become Xiaomi’s vice president of global operations. This information has already been confirmed by both companies and Barra himself.
