Too much is expected from virtual reality. This segment of the industry will develop, but not as rapidly as predicted, – says the expert of the analytical company Robert W. Baird & Co.
Pre-ordered Oculus Rift kits will be delivered at the end of March. According to forecasts, 1-2 million headsets will be sold in a year.
Colin Sebastian, senior analyst at Robert W. Baird & Co, is confident that these expectations are overstated. “We are optimistic and consider the industry to be one of the fastest growing sectors in the field of media and entertainment. However, our near-term forecasts are more moderate. We expect Oculus sales to reach 500,000 – 2 million in the coming year,” Sebastian said.
In January, when pre-orders were just being accepted on Oculus Rift, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey announced that sales were “much more successful than he could have imagined.” Lucky said that he could not give exact figures, but “they sold as much in 10 minutes as they expected to sell in an hour.”
