Microsoft has officially unveiled the HoloLens 2 AR headset. This is the second version of glasses that superimpose a virtual image on the real world.

HoloLens 2 differ from the previous version in smaller dimensions and weight, as well as twice the viewing angle. The glasses are able to track the movements of the eyes and hands so that the user can control the holographic interface using gestures, not controllers. HoloLens 2 also has a built-in Windows Hello biometric system, VentureBeat reports.

The glasses work on the basis of the Windows Holographic 64-bit operating system. This is a special version of Windows 10. The headset contains not only Microsoft software, but also the Mozilla Firefox browser.

According to Microsoft representatives, the glasses are designed for corporate clients — employees of medical, engineering and other fields, and not for a wide audience. Although the company already has several applications in stock for the mass consumer, including the RoboRaid shooter and the Young Concer platformer. Let’s add that the first HoloLens were initially distributed among software developers in the USA and Canada. Later, the audience and the number of markets expanded.

The cost of the new version of the prototype is $3,500. Glasses can also be purchased by subscription — for $ 125 per month. Pre-orders have already started.

At the same time, the nearest competitor of HoloLens 2 — Magic Leap One — is distributed at a price of $ 2295. Plus, unlike the Microsoft headset, Magic Leap is also declared as a gaming platform for a mass audience.
