Metacritic decided to fight the review-bombing after all. Now it is impossible to leave a review about the game on the site if 48 hours have not passed since its release.

Metacritic itself has not reported on the recently introduced rule and has not commented on it. The new mark drew the attention of the BoJack user on ResetEra. According to him, the following message appeared on the page of the newly released Switch version of Vigor:

“We ask you to take the time to play. Come back to leave a review at 22:00 Moscow time on July 9.”

The port was released yesterday, July 8. But the same mark was observed in some games until 48 hours had passed since their release (for example, Catherine: Full Body for Switch).

The service was previously criticized for the fact that anyone can leave a review on it. You don’t even need to confirm that the reviewer owns a copy of the game. This allows players dissatisfied with various aspects of the title to “jam” it and lower its rating on Metacritic.

The last high-profile scandal involving the use of review-bombing was the release of The Last of Us Part II. Obviously, it was after him that the authors of Metacritic decided to add a new rule. But even after that, it will be difficult to call the estimates objective. After all, players still do not need to confirm that they bought the game and tried it out over the past day.

Note that the news is actively published on Russian-language websites. In the English-speaking environment, it went unnoticed.
