Starbreeze stated that after the restructuring, it will focus exclusively on the development and publication of video games. This means that it can abolish its VR divisions.

StarVRThe Swedish publisher has three areas of activity: game development, game publishing and the creation of VR technologies.

And just from the latter, she, according to Variety and several other publications, can refuse.

  • Two of the five divisions of Starbreeze are engaged in VR development: Enterspace and Enterspace International. Both represent Sweden’s largest VR entertainment center.
  • In addition, Starbreeze has jointly developed the StarVR headset with Acer. At first, both companies invested in the project in half. But last year, Starbreeze’s share in it dropped to 33.3%. And this month, the companies suspended the implementation of the program for StarVR One developers due to problems with Starbreeze.
  • Starbreeze is also owned by Nozon, the Belgian developer of PresenZ VR technology (which was used in the creation of StarVR). The purchase of this studio cost the Swedish publisher $7.7 million.

The publisher expects to find financial partners. It follows from his press release that they could acquire those units of Starbreeze that are no longer a priority.

Starbreeze will focus all financial and operational resources on its core business (game development and publishing) and preparation of future processes.

CEO of Starbreeze

By mid-2019, Starbreeze, as well as in all five of its divisions, will undergo restructuring. Starbreeze filed a corresponding application in court, finding itself on the verge of bankruptcy due to low sales of Overkill’s The Walking Dead and a 50% drop in shares.

Starbreeze’s financial problems have worsened due to suspicions of insider trading. Recently, the police came to the publisher’s Stockholm office, confiscated work computers and detained one of the employees.
