Japanese messenger LINE has added another 100 million users in just 4 months. Now the company intends to raise 500 million by the end of 2014.
Of course, this data only reflects the number of registered users, not the MAU. Considering that the MAU of the company’s main competitors – WhatsApp and WeChat – have already reached 350 million and 272 million, it is clear why LINE is striving to report the most significant figures.
According to the president of LINE Akira Morikawa, the rapid growth of the messenger audience was caused by the decision to turn LINE from a simple communication tool into a social gaming platform.
Representatives of LINE also reported that the MAU of the messenger in Indonesia is 14 million. To consolidate this success, the company is going to open an official store in the country. It will sell souvenirs and accessories LINE for Christmas. This step is likely to provide significant marketing growth, thanks to which the company hopes to break away from its competitors.
More than 80% of the app’s audience are users from East Asia. In the near future, LINE intends to attract the attention of users from India, Turkey, France, Germany and Italy.
