The Midora game has collected $73 thousand necessary for the release with the help of the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform. The project, however, has not yet been released: the authors of the game have run out of money. As of October 2015, only the diesel engine is fully ready.
The Midora project started in June last year. Pixel adventure game needed $73 thousand to appear on Steam Early Access. The money was collected in a matter of days, 3359 backers donated the necessary amount in a month.
The release date was set for January 2015.
In February, the creator of Midora, the team Epic Minds, published an extensive post. In the first paragraph to the question “where is Early Access?” she replied, we quote, “very close.” This was followed by a detailed description of the work done in stages.
In June 2015, the developers announced that they planned to release the game on Steam, but they were scared by the summer sale in the store. It would be unprofitable to release the project at this moment, they stated.
By the end of August, there was no playable (or any other) version of Midora on Steam. The developers said that they “canceled” the Steam Early Access version and shared that they were looking for a publisher who would help them overcome all difficulties and release the game on discs. In the post, the authors of the project, in addition, mentioned that they had just finished working on the disdoc.
The phrase about the disdock – after talking about the imminent release – was decisive. By this time, the backers began to understand what was going on, and began to demand money back.
The final chord in history was the October post. In it, the developers said that they greatly overestimated their own capabilities. But, nevertheless, they promised not to quit their jobs – under one simple condition. In order to finally release the game on different platforms, they need $ 120-150 thousand. “I will do everything that is required of me so that the game in the form in which I imagine it gets into your hands. The game is over on paper, and the team has nothing but talent. All we need is money. Money is our “boss of the level”, – with these words, the project manager Mhyre addressed the audience.
The creator of the game Midora Mayr
In the comments on the request of the backers to return the money, he said: “The money will not be returned, because the game is still under development.”
Let’s add, according to Mayr, the project is still actively looking for publishers. However, the backers convince developers to give away money and tie up with the gaming industry.
