The purchase of Insomniac Games cost Sony $229 million. The deal was reported in the summer, but its value became known only now.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
The exact amount is indicated in Sony’s latest financial report.
It also notes that in November, the publisher paid for the purchase mainly in cash.
According to Polygon, by the end of the fiscal year (the fourth quarter will end on March 31), Sony can estimate the residual tail of Insomniac game sales and costs. Depending on this estimate, the purchase amount may be adjusted.
Recall that the deal between Sony and Insomniac was planned for a long time. These companies have been working together for years: Insomniac is the author of games for all generations of the PlayStation console. She developed the famous Spyro the Dragon series (later her successful remake was released), the equally famous Ratchet & Clank, as well as the 2018 hit Marvel’s Spider-Man.
For Sony, the American Insomniac has become its 14th internal studio. Together with the above IP, the publisher received the rights to Sunset Overdrive. Although the first part of this game is an Xbox One exclusive.
Insomniac is currently developing projects only for PlayStation. What kind of games she has in her work is unknown. According to the media, the studio can work on titles for the PlayStation 5, which will be released at the end of 2020.
