Representatives of the Russian industry are working on a law on the regulation of video games. This was announced by the head of Roskomnadzor Alexander Zharov.

His statement took place at the international conference “Protection of personal data”, held today in Moscow.

“I met with representatives of the gaming industry just a few weeks ago and I know that they are developing a bill themselves that will regulate the gaming industry. To my question, why did they do this, they said that they were trying to create the conditions that would allow both business to develop effectively and protect users,” RIA Novosti quoted the minister as saying.

When asked by the press who exactly came up with such an initiative, Zharov replied: “This is the initiative of the esports Association, which decided to consult with us about regulating its sphere. This is their initiative, good will. They showed the concept of the law, which they developed independently for the state. They prescribed reasonable things — the age marking of games, for example.”

As in a separate publication reminds the newspaper.Ru”, previously the State Duma has already been asked to regulate the gaming segment in Russia. In February 2017, Olga Letkova, the head of the working group under the Commissioner for Children’s Rights in Russia, asked to take up the law “On children’s play products”.

Letkova believes that it is necessary to limit the turnover of those products for children (both digital games and physical toys) that “develop aggression in children, a cult of death, as well as anti-Russian views and early sexual adulthood.”

“[The restriction] is hindered by the lack of a legislative framework that would establish not only technical, but also moral criteria for children’s play products, would allow limiting the turnover of harmful and even dangerous games and toys for children,” Letkova said at the time.
