In Romania, there was a merger of two developers. A larger company, Amber, acquired the indie studio Scorpius Games.

PositronX

According to Venture Beat, the deal brought Amber 10 Scorpius developers (in addition to a staff of 450 people) and PC shooter PositronX.

It is not known how much these assets cost the buyer.

Amber management is confident that the purchase will strengthen its position as a PC and console game developer. The Scorpius employees she acquired are specialists in the Unreal Engine, as well as in RTS and RPG titles.

In addition, the company will help Scorpius to finalize PositronX, which is now in early access Steam. As the media suggests, Amber will not publish the game itself, but will find another publisher for it.

Amber was launched in 2013. She doesn’t have her own games: it outsources content and technologies commissioned by third-party gaming companies. For example, for a year she worked on Unreal Engine tools together with Scorpius Games. Other outsourcing partners include: Disney, Rovio, Paradox Interactive, Raw Fury.

Let’s add that Amber recently created a game studio in Mexico. It also has two branches in the USA, and the company’s headquarters is located in Bucharest.

Scorpius Games has been on the market for more than 10 years. During this time, the studio managed to create only two games, including PositronX. The first was the survival RPG I Shall Remain. It was bought by 20 to 50 thousand players.
