Indie developer and publisher Akupara Games has published a table with the specifications of game trailers. It was originally intended for internal use, but now it has become available to everyone. The table will help you prepare and properly arrange trailers for different platforms. The link to the table was shared by gaming expert Simon Carless in the new issue of his GameDiscoveryCo newsletter.

It specifies all the requirements and rules that must be followed when publishing trailers on various platforms. We are talking about the correct placement of logos, the presence of age ratings, screensavers and endings, as well as subtitles and other information.

  • Steam allows you to publish only two trailers on the game page in the store. Also, Valve does not advise using “cinematics” and recommends switching to showing gameplay no later than 30 seconds from the beginning of the video.Nintendo has special requirements for the technical parameters of the video.
  • The resolution of trailers for eShop should be no more than 720p with a bitrate of 2000 kbit/s, and FPS should not exceed 30 frames per second. At the end of the trailer for Epic Games Store, you must specify the store’s logo.
  • At the same time, there should be no information about competing stores in the video.Microsoft advises making videos for Xbox no longer than 60 seconds, the size of which does not exceed 2 GB.
  • Sony also allows you to upload videos weighing up to 50 GB.
  • However, there should be only one audio track in the trailer for the PS Store. The recommended resolution for the store is 2160p.Also, almost all sites prohibit changing their logos in any way.
  • Some have special requirements for their location and size in the frame. You can read the table and the full list of recommendations here.

Carless also recalled the material of Derek Lieu, who specializes in creating trailers for indie games. He has a separate page where he analyzes the specifications in detail and illustrates them with illustrative examples.
