The websites of future sequels of System Shock have passed into the hands of Tencent. Perhaps the Chinese giant has invested in developer OtherSide Entertainment.
The new domain owner is reported by VGC. Journalists found out that the sites SystemShock3.com and SystemShock4.com , previously owned by studio head Paul Neurath, is now registered on Tencent. The re-registration took place last week.
This may mean that OtherSide Entertainment has attracted investment from Tencent to create System Shock 3. At the beginning of the year, the media reported that the title team was dissolved and its development was discontinued.
Recall that in 2019, at least a dozen key System Shock 3 developers left the studio. Prior to that, OtherSide itself separated from the losing publisher Starbreeze and bought the rights to the future project. However, she did not pull it financially.
Over the past year, OtherSide has been looking for a new publisher or investors for an independent publication of System Shock 3. By February 2020, it was critically behind schedule for content creation.
Last month, OtherSide Marketing director Walter Somol announced that “the game is alive”. Soon it became known about his departure from the company.
Note: if the studio still managed to attract Tencent and resume the development of the allegedly canceled title, most likely, it transferred the rights to System Shock 3 to the publisher along with the domains.
