Director Guillermo del Toro (Guillermo del Toro) told how he sees the modern game industry, and that he may return to game development. But only together with Hideo Kojima (Hideo Kojima).
Del Toro shared his point of view at D.I.C.E, an annual summit for game company executives.
The director believes that new ideas in the gaming industry do not take root because developers face pressure from those who give them money. “I think it’s sad. In the industry, such an alliance is found all the time. The creators of the plot look forward, trying to come up with something new, and the rich look back, just not to fall out of a safe rut. And there is tension,” del Toro said. – It’s the same as with movies: there are wonderful indie games – subtle, poetic. There are a lot of them. And they are limited only by bastards with money.”
Apparently, a similar conflict led to the fact that last year del Toro was unable to release the Silent Hills title. Then the director said in an interview with Shacknews that he would no longer make games. When asked at D.I.C.E if he would return to development, the director replied that everything was the same. And that he would make an exception only for Kojima.
Let’s add, in our opinion, this is not particularly logical: the project that forced del Toro to quit development was created by the director together with Hideo Kojima.
