Sweden is a leading European country in the field of game development. Such conclusions were made by representatives of the GDC game developers conference based on their own research.
250 developers from all over Europe were interviewed for the study. They agreed that at the moment the best video games are made in Sweden.
NordicGameBits asked Johanna Nylander, a representative of the Legal Affairs Department of the Swedish Game Developers Association, to comment on the study. She believes that it’s all about diversity: “We have a lot of different studios here, from AAA to mobile. In the field of game development, our country is really very developed. Developers can easily change the genre they specialize in and the company they work for.”
Nylander also noted that the local developer community can be described as “open, team-oriented, dedicated, creative and hardworking.” According to her, it is the propensity for teamwork that provides Swedish developers with a leading place in Europe.
Let’s add that one of the most profitable paid games of recent times, Minecraft, was made in Sweden. In addition, companies such as King and Avalanche Studios come from there.
