Facebook continued to rebrand. Three separate divisions — Oculus (VR), Spark (AR) and Portal (smart displays) — we started working under the general brand Facebook Reality Labs.
This was announced by Facebook in its blog. A single name should demonstrate to the audience that these departments belong to the same company and deal with similar problems.
It is already known that FRL is working on a computing platform that “will help people feel connected to each other regardless of place and time.” What exactly the technology will do is not yet reported.
By the way, even before the restructuring, another team, also known as Oculus Research, worked under the name Facebook Reality Labs. The department has now been renamed FRL Research.
But that’s not all: the annual AR/VR conference Oculus Connect has changed its name to Facebook Connect. In 2020, the presentation will be held on September 16 in an online format and will show the latest innovations in the field of augmented and virtual reality technologies.
Recall that Facebook recently announced that it was discontinuing support for Oculus accounts. From October, owners of the new VR headset will have to use Facebook profiles to launch the device.
