Media giant Tencent has introduced stricter rules of conduct for Chinese game streaming services. These requirements are developed taking into account the new Internet regulations adopted in China two weeks ago.

What is prohibited for streamers

  • Propaganda of violence in the real world;
  • dissemination of illegal information about terrorism, cults, pornography, gambling, etc.;
  • spreading confidential information about other people without their permission;
  • spreading false information on behalf of Tencent;
  • dissemination of information about hackers and cheaters, about boosting (pumping someone else’s account) and private servers;
  • discussion of national politics and religion;
  • copyright infringement of publishers, game developers, content creators or other streamers;
  • creation of prohibited content;
  • unacceptable behavior that harms other users of Tencent products or brand reputation.

According to the Esports Observer, the new rules apply to all streaming platforms and streaming channels if their content is based on Tencent products. However, it is not yet clear how streamers will be punished for violating one or more points.

In March last year, Tencent invested more than $ 1 billion in Chinese streaming services Huya and Douyu, according to Gamesindustry.biz . The company also bought out more than 12% of the shares of the Bilibili platform and launched its own, Penguin Esports.

There is a natural relationship between game content and streaming services. Tencent, being the leader of this market and the publisher of games, is responsible for compliance of industry streaming content with state standards.

Official statement of Tencent

From all of the above, we can conclude that Tencent is once again meeting the Chinese government halfway. For example, earlier the company introduced restrictions for underage players.
